2012 Brings with it Some Good News in the Fight Against MS

January 6, 2012

I received a call today from a good friend of mine, Reg Lepper, who told me there was an encouraging news story and video about a person making great strides living with MS from a news segment carried by ABC Nightly News with Diane Sawyer on January 4th, 2012.  I think Reg is trying to get out of riding bikeMS this year with Team iDentifi.

Follow this link for the story and video —>  Explosion in Treatment Advances for Multiple Sclerosis

Here’s an excerpt – For decades she tried different drugs that brought on severe side effects. Then in 2007, (Tracy) Ofri enrolled in a clinical trial for a new drug that was soon hailed as the first oral MS medication to hit the market. Studies for the drug, Gilenya, showed that it reduced the number of relapses by keeping the white blood cells under control.”

I also wanted to pass along a link to —> livingms a very good Blog from someone who, like my sister Diane, lives with and understands what it is like to suffer from MS.

In her own words, “I am Kim; diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis at the age of 38 after a series of CT Scans, MRI’s, Spinal Taps, and blood work. I take a DMD (Disease Modifying Drug) called Copaxone to help slow the progression of the disease. I started this blog after reading so many message boards where newly diagnosed patients or patients awaiting diagnosis seemed to share a sense of overwhelming helplessness or anxiety. I am hopeful that my experiences can offer ways to help others feel like they are more in control of their healthcare and their lives.”

All in all, a good start to what will be shaping up to be an encouraging year in the fight for a cure for MS.

From Team iDentifi.  That’s why we ride!

This is definitely a move in the right direction! Unfortunately, Gilenya has side effects that make it dangerous for me to take, but there are three (I think) other oral drugs in the pipeline.

Had to change identities! that ShermanGardenEvanston blog is the one I created for our co-op – trying to boost sales. It worked too! We’ve had three closings in the past two months and have another two under contract. Crappy prices, but at least they’re off the market and we can work on building up comps again.

KIm. My name is Tracy Ofri. I was the person on the World News report. I know they couldnt give more detail on all the dramatic updates in MS that have happened in a short length of time in the time allotted for M/S. I did three days of shooting, and that was just me. I am sure they had prepared more. But it is a half hour segment on World News. They dedicated M/S to a few minutes, probably because Romneys wife has it. All press is good press to spread awareness and hope for this dreadful disease.
Unfortunately people with M/S heard the promos for the spot that were very encouraging and wanted more. After all we are waiting for our cure. Feel free to ask me anything. I do many things for M/S, and know alot on it. IBy having it a long time, I have worked hard researching everything. I will answer what I can. I live in New York, but am actively spreading awareness, information and resources throughout the country.
P.S. I know u cant see it on the tv, but from your picture above, I thought it was me, you
and I look alike! I will send you a picture when I find one , that you will be able to see it too!
    Best Regards,Tracy Ofri
