bikeMS 2011

March 18, 2011

Those of you who know me, know my sister Diane is afflicted with MS. I would love to say to you, “there is a cure!”  We have done it!  I wish and pray I could; but the time has not come, not yet.

The barrage of misery, suffering and pain we see and hear about almost every day is “numbing”.  In Japan, we deal with tsunamis and nuclear plant melt downs.  In the Mid-East, hundreds of thousands demonstrate while thousands die fighting for freedom against tyranny and oppression.

Some disasters we live with every day.  Some, like MS there is no escape… at least not today.  Approximately 400,000 Americans have MS, and every week about 200 people are diagnosed. Worldwide, MS affects about 2.5 million people.  Numbing.

Team iDentifi 2010

There are thousands of young children with MS.  There are more women than men afflicted with MS.  There is a wide range of afflictions associated with MS from fatigue and memory loss to the loss of mobility; even death.

That is why I ride for bikeMS and that is why I formed Team iDentifi in 2006, now 5 years ago and untold thousands of cycling miles later and thousands of dollars donated by many of you.  You have my deepest gratitude.

We ride for Diane.  We ride for a cure.  Together with twenty plus caring individuals we will each ride 100 plus miles over the weekend of May 14th and 15th to help the victims of MS live a better life and to find a cure for MS in our lifetime.

Your donation not only can contribute towards a cure for MS but goes a long way to helping those now afflicted with MS.  Check out our Team iDentifi bikeMS Team page…

Let’s find a cure for MS, while, in Diane’s words, “life is still good.”

I LOATHE the word “afflicted”. So I just went to the thesaurus to look it up. Awful words like “made miserable”, worry, upset, distress. Uh uh. So I looked up a word I like better: challenged. Much better. I found confront, defy, face up to. Yep, that’s the ticket! I’m especially fond of “defy”.

Ride on! Let’s all defy all the challenges in our lives – be they big or small!
